Counseling
Scheduling a Counseling Appointment
Students can request an appointment with their counselor or social worker by filling out the Student Appointment Request Form. There is a Chromebook in the counseling office that students will use to fill out the form to request an appointment. The Student Appointment Request Form is available and monitored daily on all school days. Students will be called down as soon as possible, within 24 hours.
Educational Development Plans
What is an Educational Development Plan (EDP)?
An Educational Development Plan (EDP) documents a student’s current interests, abilities, and career pathways. At SMS, students will create their EDP in 6th grade using Xello. The EDP includes information a student can use to make wise choices about scheduling classes and post secondary options. The EDP is a “living” document that is updated yearly (throughout graduation) as student interests and abilities become more obvious and focused.
Why have an EDP?
An EDP is designed to assist students in identifying their interests and strengths, which helps them to then develop career goals. The essential elements for updating an EDP are career interest surveys, exploring careers, projected job openings, potential earnings, educational/training required for careers, and creating plans of action.
Students are also welcomed and encouraged to explore Xello on their own time.
