Dear SMS Families,
Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Elizabeth Walker and I am your building principal at Sashabaw Middle School. My family of six lives in Clarkston and I enjoy relaxing at the lake, reading, and attending my children’s sporting events. I have been the principal at SMS for six years, but before that, I was an assistant principal At CHS and a teacher and coach. This is my 19th year in education and each year seems to bring new and exciting opportunities as well as challenges.
During these unprecedented times, I often have to remind myself about how much our lives have changed. Last March, we were preparing to host all incoming sixth grade students for our SMS Transition Days. Our parent orientation night didn’t take place due to COVID-19, and we asked you to choose your elective classes after watching an online video. That is crazy! I am awestruck at how much our lives have changed due to these circumstances, but I have faith in our resiliency to achieve great things as we put one foot in front of the other.
Our first week with teaching staff is already in full swing and there is a buzz of creativity here at SMS. Everyone is fantastically busy as we work collaboratively amongst our teams and departments to provide our students with a world-class education. I know there will be trials and tribulations as we deliver this Distance Learning model, but it is my hope that together with you and your family, we can make it the best year ever!
Our administrative team will share plans for our material pick up with you in the coming days. There will be many questions as we navigate this new normal. If you ever need anything, please reach out to me or a member of my administrative team. I ask that you remain patient with your student, with our teachers and school personnel, as well as with yourself. No one can do this on their own, and it will take a village as we navigate these difficult waters together. After all, WE ARE CLARKSTON!
Principal, Sashabaw Middle School
